My brief was to create a portrait that shows the essence of time & place without relying on the client’s face to tell the story.

The sequence I share here opens with a test shot, followed by the two images my client selected and one ‘behind the scene’ capture.

When shooting environmental portraits I always try and keep my lighting setup as simple as needed. Here I used natural light with a snooted fill light on my clients hands and legs. The test shot explains why: The hard backlight required I stop down by at least a full stop. So I added an accent light to bring out the details on her hands & legs.

Stay safe

Johan.
