History is replete with great photographers who had a “hot streak” of creativity that they never surpassed. Adams, Atget, the Betchers, (Robert) Frank and Evans are names that come to mind.
These photographers tend to have a singular & unwavering point of view.
In contrast photographers such as Callahan, Freelander, Stiglitz and Shore kept seaking new ways of looking at the world. They found some fundamental way to shake up their creative practice such that their work stayed fresh and evolved in a positive way.
Today there is an emphasis on finding your niche or vision. This is a good thing to work towards when you start out as an artist. As creatives we should not stop there.
