The Floating City

“Whenever the jetty fountains splash into the marble basins, they seem to me to be telling the story of the floating city. Birds

As a child I often wondered what it would be like to be a bird. Whilst I can never know the answer to this childhood fancy, I enjoy observing their splendour in nature. Only rarely do I make an image that is more than a memento mori and worth showing here.

Sadly, once abundant species are frequently finding their way onto the amber or, worse still, the red watch lists. Here they seem to languish for a while before quietly fading away. How can we call this progress?

Asia

As a young man Asia always fascinated me; the people, the culture, the history and, yes, the food! I count the decade I lived and travelled amongst Asia’s people as the happiest period of my life. This is where photography and, later, art grew to become my obsession. I was insatiable. Cartier-Bresson underestimated the role of luck when he said, “Your first 10000 photographs are your worst”.

These moments happen between the intensity and the drama of life on the savanna; in them we see a glimpse of humanity. These are the moments that I sought out and brought back.
